Faith As We See It

Father Michael Marini

"I was born and raised in Santa Cruz, so my first memories of church are here. I just think about how different my belief system is as I've grown over the years. And how much more personal an experience of walking into this place, and presiding over worship, is than it was when I was a kid and just did it because somebody else told me to do it. And how much easier it is for me to identify what I believe outside of church, how much easier it is to feel that I'm not leaving behind anything in church, that I'm taking it all out in the street with me into my daily life. It's not a ritual I go through, but an experience that nourishes me for whatever is happening out here."

--Father Michael Marini before a Saturday evening Mass at Holy Cross Catholic Church.
