Photo by Angela Dawn Finger and Feet Food Fest: Fabulous music, dance and food come together for a gastronomic night of fundraising for the Santa Cruz Dance Gallery HAVE A HANKERING TO DON those swanky duds collecting dust in the closet, eat decadent finger foods and be a part of some cultural do-gooding like those folks on Dynasty? Next week's Feast for the Muse has fallen from the heavens as the answer to your bourgeois prayers. A benefit for the Santa Cruz Dance Gallery, the feast lines up some of the world's most hedonistic pleasures--food, dance and song. Throw in a little s-e-x, and you'd have a haven you'd never want to leave. The evening commences with a sensuous meal, composed by So Say We's David Jackman. What kind of food? Oh, just a little something the culinary genius whipped up--carpaccio of zucchini, poached salmon with saffron cream, eggplant Parmesanlets. Once the dining begins, dance mavens Rita Rivera, Amy Sugar, Per Haaland, Carol Fields and the footsy troupe Smith Grade Construction Co. will show off their finest lithe moves on the Dance Gallery stage, while the muses are personified by everyone's favorite songbird, Nancy LeVan of Dresden, Bill Walker and Papiba Godino. And once all that is done, dessert comes, and with dessert comes the evening's, uh, climax, with improv diva Nita Little's provocative ensemble piece Pillow Talk, and then an interactive dance party with Dandaro designed to work off all those nasty little calories you've consumed. All the money raised from this night goes straight back to the Dance Gallery, which has spent almost five years supplying Santa Cruz and out-of-the-area dancers with a stage upon which to groove and arts-lovers with a creative array of acts. The Feast for the Muse presents itself on Sept. 6 (7pm) at the Dance Gallery, 418 Front St., SC. The night might set you back a little--$30 for one, $55 for two and $100 for four--but it's all tax-deductible and it is for a good cause, you know.
