[whitespace] Dylan blows into Santa Cruz

By Rob Pratt

On Feb. 9, Bill Graham Presents announced a pair of blockbuster concert dates with folk-rock icon Bob Dylan at the Santa Cruz Civic Auditorium. The shows will take place March 15 and 16. They are perhaps a set of warm-up dates before the legendary singer and songwriter heads out on a national tour.

Most recently on the road last fall with Grateful Dead bassist Phil Lesh, Dylan comes to Santa Cruz riding a surge of new interest in his music, which shaped pop culture during much of the '60s and early '70s. Dylan's newest single, "Things Have Changed," has just been released..

The local shows (Dylan plays Santa Cruz before heading out to Reno, Nev. and other dates across the U.S.) caught even his Columbia Records publicist off-guard.

"I have it down as unconfirmed," said Rene Pfefer.

Leslie Conner of the Santa Cruz Civic Auditorium, however, confirms that the dates are indeed booked with Bill Graham Presents and that the $45 tickets are set to go on sale at the box office and other Ticketmaster locations at 10am this Sunday (Feb. 13).
