A woman who was walking alone downtown early Wednesday was able to beat off an attacker by kicking him in the groin and biting his finger.

A woman who was walking alone downtown early Wednesday was able to beat off an attacker by kicking him in the groin and biting his finger. The attack occurred at about 3:00 am on Laurel Street, near the Santa Cruz High School athletic fields. According to the victim, age 20, the man approached her and put one hand in his pants, while grabbing her by the jaw with the other hand. This gave her an opportunity to grab his hand and bite down on his finger, causing him to bleed. He stepped back in surprise, and she kicked him, then ran to a nearby 7-11 for help.

She described her assailant as a heavyset, 5’8″ Latino man of about thirty. Police have yet to identify a suspect. Read more at Santa Cruz Sentinel and KION.
