Have you ever walked down the street and suddenly had a hankering for French fries? You look around for the nearest McDonald’s, but there isn’t one in sight. What’s going on?
It could be because of the car that was idling at the light just a moment ago. It may have filled up at the Green Station, which specializes in biodiesel fuel made from fryer oil sold to it by local restaurants. The oil is recycled into fuel for your car in Gonzales and then pumped at the environmentally friendly filling station on Ocean Street. Biodiesel can be used almost anywhere gasoline is used, with little or no modification to the engine. Although it costs 25 cents more per gallon, it also has the distinct advantage of reducing emissions, which contribute to global warming.
