The Times of London has named Santa Cruz the world’s top surfing destination, beating such strong contenders as Australia’s Gold Coast, Bali and the North Shore of Oahu. Sure, Santa Cruz isn’t quite as exotic as some of the other locations like Hossegor, France, or Ericeira, Portugal, but as the Times pointed out, there is something for just about everyone here, from Cowell’s for beginners to Pleasure Point to Steamer Lane for real pros.
So what’s the problem with Santa Cruz? One local surfer, Jeff Singson of Arrow Surf and Sport, says that it’s the water temperature. “Don’t get me wrong, I love it here,” he says, but the cold water can sometimes get uncomfortable. It’s the price you pay for great waves.” Read more at The Times.
