Manny Solano has been involved with local police departments since he joined the Watsonville Police Explorer Cadet program in his senior year of high school. Yesterday he was named the city’s Interim Chief of Police and primed to take over from Chief Terry Medina when he retires on Dec. 31. Selected from among 21 applicants for the job, the new police chief is a well-known figure on the force, having worked his way up through the ranks, earning numerous awards and citations along the way. In 2007, he was named Pajaro Valley’s Man of the Year. Apart from two years spent with the Santa Cruz police, Solano spent his entire career in Watsonville.

Also announced were the appointment of two new Deputy Chiefs—Lieutenant Rudy Escalante, 47, of the SCPD, and Commander Robert Knill, 48, of the California Attorney General’s Bureau of Narcotic Enforcement—effective Dec. 1. Read More at the Contra Costa Times.
