Gang violence has been one of the most talked about problems in Santa Cruz County this year. Before he leaves office, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has pledged $9.2 million from his California Gang Reduction, Intervention and Prevention initiative to fight back against the growing problem throughout the state. About $1 million of that will go to the Central Coast. Just over one-third, or $369,300, will go to Watsonville.
“These grants will help support California’s local communities to prevent and fight gang violence, making our streets safer,” said the Governor upon announcing the new grants. Read more at KSBW.
