Body-heart sensing camera has already helped firefighters make rescues

Watsonville’s Fire Department got a new tool to help it save lives: a thermal camera that can focus on the body heat of a single individual in a darkened room. The camera was made possible with a $6,400 grant from the Fireman’s Fund insurance. Captain Fernando Tapiz says that the camera has already been put to good use. When entering an apartment complex on Wednesday, they were able to find a person in a smoky room by focusing on his body heat. Fire Chief Mark Bisbee added that while the camera may have once been considered a luxury, it is now a necessity in the Department’s efforts to save lives. Read More at Fox 35.
