Dozens of men and women paraded through Watsonville on Sunday, calling for an end to the violence that violence that has claimed 80 lives in the town over the past 16 years. The march was organized by the Brown Berets, a local Latino advocacy group, to coincide with Dia de los Muertos, the traditional Day of the Dead. Among the marchers was Deputy Police Chief Manny Solano, slated to take over as Chief of Police in December. At a rally at Main Plaza, he thanked the Brown Berets for their role in keeping violence down. Four people have been killed in Watsonville in the past year. Read more at the Santa Cruz Sentinel.
