Santa Cruz water restrictions should be lifted by late October, but that is no assurance that the city will be back to how things once were. Toby Goddard, the county’s Water Conservation Manager, says that everything depends on the amount of rainfall this winter. Another dry year could force the city to tap into its reservoir at Loch Lomond. Goddard adds that the restrictions were effective, even though about 100 homes and businesses were fined.

One hope for the county is the El Niño cycle, which is a major weather driver. In previous years, El Niño produced large amounts of rainfall—enough to replenish supplies. But with climate change well underway, there is no assurance that this will happen again this year. Read More at KSBW.
