As if Santa Cruz didn’t have enough gang problems, two rival motorcycle gangs, Vagos and Hells Angels, could be in the middle of a turf war over the city. Though Santa Cruz was traditionally associated with Hells Angels, the Vagos Motorcycle Club launched a chapter here recently, causing friction between the two groups. Within two weeks, the two gangs were fighting, as neither wanted to concede territory to the other.

Jorge Gil-Blanco, a motorcycle gang expert, says that neither gang would want to back down before a rival, which is why the fights are occurring. He did, however, point out that there are some places where the two gangs do coexist peacefully, pointing to San Jose as an example of that. Read more at the Santa Cruz Sentinel.
