Local residents planning to attend a local swine flu vaccine clinic at Cabrillo College next Saturday should start making alternate plans. County officials announced that they cannot be sure they will get enough doses of the vaccine on time. On the other hand, the clinic planned for the Watsonville Youth Center this Saturday is still planned to proceed, but vaccines will be limited to high risk populations only.

Public health officials say that they had hoped to receive 43,000 doses of vaccine for the county, but to date have only gotten 31,000. This is daunting news, especially in the wake of revised figures by the CDC concerning the spread of the H1N1 virus. It is now believed that 22 million people across the United States have been infected with the disease. The number of fatalities, once thought to be 1,000 has been increased from a low of 2,500 to a high of 6,100, with 3,900 being considered the best estimate.
