Lady Gaga rubbed shoulders with pirates, blue Na’vi women (from Avatar) and superheroes while musicians played and people strolled along the street, in shoes and on stilts. A few people held a rally in support of Proposition 19, handing out stickers with the logo, “Yes We Cannabis.”

Lady Gaga rubbed shoulders with pirates, blue Na’vi women (from Avatar) and superheroes while musicians played and people strolled along the street, in shoes and on stilts. A few people held a rally in support of Proposition 19, handing out stickers with the logo, “Yes We Cannabis.”

Police kept a watchful eye on the event, and a helicopter hovered overhead, but for the first part of the evening things seemed rather peaceful, with just a few arrests for possessing alcohol in open containers. By 10pm, however, the mood changed, says SCPD Spokesman Zach Friend, as gang members began appearing on the street. By midnight, several dozen people had been arrested for alcohol violations, for which they could face a triple fine. Only one fight was reported. Read more at Santa Cruz Sentinel.
