As of January 4, the environmental building laws will be extended to all new construction in the county’s unincorporated communities.
Environmentally sound building policies are already the law in Santa Cruz County’s four cities. As of January 4, the law will be extended to all new construction in the county’s unincorporated communities too. Unlike the cities, however, some of the county’s new rules would also apply to any remodeling or additions under 500 square feet. Larger additions and new buildings will be required to implement a gamut of features, including the use of recycled materials for roofing and the installation of dual-flush toilets.
While the county’s stringent environmental code now applies only to residential buildings, officials are expected to expand the rules to commercial buildings in the future. Read More at the Santa Cruz Sentinel.
