Graffiti scrawled in the men’s restroom of the UCSC Social Science building warned that Tuesday, Jan. 18 will be a violent day on campus. Authorities do not know who left the message or what type of violence it means, but they are taking it seriously. Jan. 18 is the birthday of Martin Luther King, Jr., and the violence could be related to his legacy.
“While we know that graffiti is common on college campuses, the university nonetheless takes threats seriously. Erring on the side of caution, I have concluded that it makes sense to share the information above with the campus community,” said Campus Provost Allison Galloway. She and other university officials are working closely with the police to prepare a plan of action for the day. Some students have already indicated that they intend to avoid campus on that day because of the threat. Read more at KSBW and Fox 35.
