All quiet on the purported day of violence.

It was a quiet day at UCSC yesterday despite all the dire warnings. People feared the worst when the threat of violence was found scrawled on a bathroom wall in the Social Science building. Police were out in full force, and even then, some students decided not to show up for class.

The day ended quietly, much to everyone’s relief. The only incident occurred off campus, and it happened Sunday morning at 12:30am. An 18-year-old student was walking along Bay Street near Mission Street when he was assaulted by a man with a knife who demanded his wallet. The victim fought back and managed to land a few punches before being attacked from behind by two more men. One pounced on his back, knocking him to the ground. The other kicked him repeatedly. They then took off with his wallet, cell phone and keys.

Though there have been several robberies reported recently on the Westside, police do not believe that this incident was related to those. Read more at Santa Cruz Sentinel.
