Thirty-four teams have already been fired. Now it’s time to find out who gets hired this Friday on the season final-erhm, rather, at the final dinner and judging portion of the first annual UCSC Business Plan Competition. Students from the teams AskOurTechs.com, Lingua Earth, Pherica, Route Me 2, Sky is the Limit, Sustainabites Baby Food and XpertLinx survived six months’ worth of workshopping, revisions and eliminations in order to now be in the running for $12,000. In front of a panel of Santa Cruz and Silicon Valley bigwigs, the seven teams will present their final pitch before a winner is announced and the seed money awarded. Phillipe Kahn, chairman of Fullpower Technologies and father of the modern day cell phone camera, is himself on his fourth successful company and will give the keynote address to the budding entrepreneurs. Fallen teams have included a vacuuming robot company, an online a capella music sales and distribution company and something called “What the Crepe.”Survivors include a pill popper’s reminder service, an electronic device synching service and eco-friendly baby food.

First Annual UCSC Business Plan Competition final dinner event is Friday, May 29th, at UCSC. For more information email [email protected] or visit http://bizplancontest.soe.ucsc.edu.
