Schiller, whose base salary is $140,000, was responsible for media relations, marketing, and publications, as well as for the college’s web presence. He has served in the position for three years.

Executive Vice Chancellor Alison Galloway has warned staff that this is just the first of several inevitable layoffs due to the current budget crisis. She refused to say how many people would be laid off in the end, but noted that if the June tax extension sought by Gov. Jerry Brown is not approved, the school would be forced to cut much more than $19 million, and the number of layoffs could increase dramatically. Galloway also noted that support services would be hardest hit in order to protect academic services.
