A UCSC employee from Scotts Valley shot himself at the home of his supervisor yesterday. The man, who was separated from his wife, was apparently on paid leave from his job at the Office of University Relations. University officials declined to state why he was on leave. Police investigating the scene found two loaded clips for his handgun in his backpack, leading some to speculate that much greater violence may have been averted. Though the supervisor was not home at the time, a nanny and two children were in the house. Read more at the Santa Cruz Sentinel.
