Bonnie Moor, a bus driver, best known as the face of the United Transportation Union Local 23 and Mark Halfmoon, a local TV personality, who hosted the Community TV show “Voices” are both running for election to the Santa Cruz City Council.
Two new candidates have joined the race for City Council this November, but neither of them is new to Santa Cruz politics.
Bonnie Moor, a bus driver, is best known as the face of the United Transportation Union Local 23. She’s also served on the city’s Public Works Commission. Her primary concern is the current budget crisis and how it is impacting local services, not least of which is public transportation. The solution, she believes, will come from greater cooperation between City Council and the residents.
Mark Halfmoon is a local TV personality, who hosted the Community TV show “Voices.” The show focused on local politics, and Halfmoon himself covered City Council from 2000 to 2008. He also served as Chair of the Citizens’s Police Review Board. He’s most concerned about the cost of living in Santa Cruz, housing in particular, noting that his children are moving away because they can’t afford to live here.
Though the election is only in November, there are already five candidates for two seats.
