The Fate of High Tech in California

In a letter to Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, almost 300 scientists and 25 legislators warned that planned budget cuts to the University of California system could endanger the state’s high tech industry. A number of scientists in the Central Coast area are already looking for greener pastures elsewhere, and Sandra Faber, Chair of the Department of Astronomy at UC Santa Cruz, has warned that “if you lose people you will spend decades trying to rebuild.”
