The SCPD marked the retirement of one of its most trusted members after 56 years on the force—well, dog years. There was no gold watch or even a gold collar for Jax, who has served on the police force for the past eight (human) years, but there will be plenty of doggie treats ahead.
In a tribute to Jax, SCPD Spokesman Zach Friend said, “Imagine a homicide occurring in the middle of the night. There is very little light and you have a dog with the capability to track the suspect, weapon and reconstruct the scene. That’s what he has done for us.” He also referred to Jax as “one of the most respected K-9s in recent history.” Jax was visibly touched, and responded with a “Woof … woof woof woof … woof.”
