What do you do for a living?

I have the greatest job in the world—orchestra conductor.

What would you be doing if you weren’t doing that?

I think I would either be a litigator or a manager of a large company or … a politician? Scary thought.

What do you do in your free time?

Spend time with my (almost) 6-year-old son, Auden; read, work out, study.

What comes to mind when you think of Santa Cruz?

Cool mornings and wonderful people.

What’s your favorite street?

In Santa Cruz it’s Church Street because the Civic Auditorium, where all the action happens at the Cabrillo Festival, is there!

Name something you’re excited about.

I’m excited about everything! Seeing Santa Cruz again, especially through the eyes of my 6-year-old son. He adores the beach and all of the musicians—me too.

Name a pet peeve.

Complacency and negativity.

Bodies by Susie Orbach and The Inner Voice by Renee Fleming

What’s the most important thing you’ve learned in the last three years?

To cherish every moment and give myself a break now and then.

Recent personal food trend?

I’ve never been much of a foodie, but recently started cooking and enjoy grilling!
