Misses his dog.

The actor, who won over audiences last year with his portrayal of the stoner Costard in Shakespeare Santa Cruz’s Love’s Labor’s Lost, will play Aramis in the SSC production of The Three Musketeers and Hotspur in Henry IV, Part 1.

What do you do for a living?
I’m an actor.

What would you be doing if you weren’t doing that?
Database design. Like most actors, I’ve had to take various day jobs over the years. After dealing with several underperforming databases at various law firms, I acquired enough computer programming skills to know that I would enjoy working with computers if acting work dried up. Designing a database is like solving a puzzle. I get obsessed with finding the answer.

What do you do in your free time?
I read a lot, especially on the subway in New York. I love chess and scrabble. Mostly, I do whatever my dog wants me to do.

What brought you to Santa Cruz?
My fourth season at Shakespeare Santa Cruz.

What’s your favorite street?
My apologies for the sophomoric answer, but my dad grew up at the corner of Papipi and Pupu Streets in Hawaii. It still makes me laugh.

Name something you’re excited about.
Taking my adopted Santa Cruz dog to the beach. He’s a big German shepard named Joshi who lives in the main house of the place I stayed last summer. I was in the guest house and would be woken up by Joshi most mornings to go to the dog beach, which was only a few blocks away. Unfortunately, the guest house was not available this summer, but Joshi has been more than willing to fit me into his schedule.

If Hotspur had a theme song, what would it be?
“Helter Skelter.”

Name a pet peeve.
Slow drivers. I moved to New York just so I wouldn’t have to deal with them as much (and to do a little theatre).

What are you reading?

The Greatest Show on Earth (Richard Dawkins), The Map that Changed the World (Simon Winchester).

Secret star crush?
Lucy Liu. Not only is she gorgeous and talented, but she wields a mean sword (in Kill Bill).
