Felton’s Satellite Teleworking Center is opening its second Santa Cruz location in the New Sentinel Building on Church Street. The site offers telecommuters and the self-employed a chance to work in an office-like setting with all the business amenities at a fraction of the cost. In other words, its perfect for those people who run a small business, but don’t want to stay home in their pjs all day.
Felton joins NextSpace, a short stroll away, in offering local residents a chance to work from home away from home. The two businesses are not, however, competing. They see the market as large enough for both, and they each cater to slightly different clienteles. The older NextSpace has a community of “members,” many seeking other, like-spirited individuals in their work environment. Felton’s Satellite Center is more of a work hotel, where people can rent space or services for a set period of time.
What they have in common is that they are both changing the way people work in Santa Cruz.
