Lola is one lucky dog. The one-year-old chihuahua was put in a box and thrown into a ravine, but managed to survive the ordeal and was reunited with her owner. Andrew Ariola Corpus, 19, the UCSC student who abused the animal, is not as lucky. He could get up to a year in jail, as well as counseling and community service.
Lola belongs to the girlfriend of Corpus’s former roommate. He claims that he was playing with the dog while he was drunk, and that the dig nipped at him. Corpus then stuffed the dog into a box and tossed it into a ravine. The dog was found five days later and brought to an animal shelter, where it was soon reunited with its owner.
Police say that Corpus was completely cooperative, and gave them all the details about what happened. To show his remorse, he also wrote an apology note to the owner. He will be sentenced on Oct. 27. Read more at the Santa Cruz Sentinel.
