Louie Sanchez, 28, and Marvin Norwood, 30, pleaded not guilty at their arraignment for the beating of Bryan Stow at Dodger Stadium this spring. Prosecutor Frank Santoro argued that the two men had already admitted to beating Stow as well as committing other acts of vandalism at the stadium on March 31.

This was rejected by Sanchez’s attorney, Gilbert Quinones. Appearing outside the courtroom after the arraignment, he told the press, “Making assertions and proving them are two different things.” While 20 people have been named as witnesses, only one could positively identify Sanchez, and none identified Norwood. Santoro argued that the identification is also based on a statement given by Sanchez’s sister Dorene before a grand jury. Dorene Sanchez was charged as an accessory to the crime but has since been released on $50,000 bail.

At the arraignment Quinones also withdrew a scheduled bail-reduction motion that he had filed on behalf of Sanchez. He later explained that his reasons were strategic, and that he was not forfeiting his right to re-file the motion at a later date.
