Supervisor Mark Stone Takes Coastal Commission Seat

Assembly Speaker Karen Bass has announced her selection of Santa Cruz County Supervisor Mark Stone to the mighty California Coastal Commission. Stone is replacing Monterey County Supervisor Dave Potter, whose term expires this year. The 12-member commission gets a say in most coastal development in the state, including local projects such as the La Bahia hotel and the desalination plant. Santa Cruz City Councilwoman Katherine Beiers and Watsonville Vice Mayor Luis Alejo had also expressed interest in the position, and Potter had hoped to be reinstated.
