A new contract was finally reached on Monday with 12,000 nurses at 32 Catholic Healthcare West hospitals, representing 32 hospitals in California and Nevada. This includes the Dominican Hospital of Santa Cruz with its 600 nurses. The new contract provides nurses with a pay hike of 20 percent over the next four years. It has been under negotiation since March, but as the threat of a strike loomed, a federal negotiator was brought in last week to help the parties reach a compromise.
