Yesterday, Congressman Sam Farr announced that Santa Cruz County will be receiving $913,560 in federal stimulus funding to assist its Juvenile Probation Department. The money will be used to provide job training and mentoring to at-risk youth, and help pay the salaries of five juvenile probation officers and other employees, whose jobs were threatened by budget cuts. Several of these employees have already received layoff notices, and were only kept on in their job on a month-to-month basis. Read more at the Santa Cruz Sentinel.
