People across Santa Cruz County have been rallying to help the local SPCA after what can only be called a very tough week. A shed that stored free dog food for needy families was broken into last week, but since the news went out, some $7,000 worth of pet food has poured in from concerned residents. Then there was the shed itself, which was replaced thanks to the efforts of Billy Klinkefus.

People across Santa Cruz County have been rallying to help the local SPCA after what can only be called a very tough week. A shed that stored free dog food for needy families was broken into last week, but since the news went out, some $7,000 worth of pet food has poured in from concerned residents. Then there was the shed itself, which was replaced thanks to the efforts of Billy Klinkefus. He went to Home Depot to buy a new structure and met with a representative of Tough-Shed. After explaining what had happened, they were able to split the cost of a new shed, about $1,300. Nancy Eaton of the SPCA called the flood of donations “heartwarming.” It came at the perfect time too, now that the SPCA has closed escrow on a new property just a few doors away, where it plans to build a larger facility.
