Kenneth Clamp, 41, who was convicted in the murder of Elias Sorokin two weeks ago, received a severe beating from three other inmates in the Santa Cruz County Jail. Officials say that he was beaten with a broken broom stick on the head, face and limbs. He was taken to hospital, where he is in serious condition.

Sheriff’s deputies have declined to comment on what led to the beating. They noted that Clamp is 6 foot 2 tall and weighs 260 pounds, and that he was a capable fighter who beat his own victim, Elias Sorokin, to death.

They also noted that one of the assailants was Benjamin Dess, brother of another high-profile former prisoner in the county jail. Dess’s younger brother Elliot has been charged with the hit and run death of cyclist Zachary Parke. Elliot Dess has since been released on bail pending his trial. Benjamin Dess and the two other assailants are expected to be arraigned today. Read more at Santa Cruz Sentinel.
