Donald Carl Peter got off easy. The former manager of a sober-living house in Santa Cruz already had 26 convictions against him dating back all the way to 1980, and he had been in jail six times. Nevertheless, Judge Paul Marigonda sentenced him to just a year in county jail for selling meth to the residents of a the sober-house he managed. Peter pleaded guilty to three felony charges: possession of methamphetamine for sale, maintaining a place for the sale and use of controlled substances, and possession of a deadly weapon. Detective later claimed that he had been acting as a dealer for some of the house’s residents.
