The fire, which occurred in a duplex at 201 Idaho Ave., was first reported at 5:20am. When firefighters arrived, they found heavy smoke seeping out of the doors and the windows. Only after they were able to enter the building did they find the victim, Catherine Blake, 58, lying in bed unconscious. She was removed from the building but it was too late. The cause of the death was determined to be carbon monoxide poisoning, since there was no fire in her bedroom. Read more at ABC 7 and the Santa Cruz Sentinel.
