It took just 26 minutes, 56 seconds for Silas Kipruto of Kenya to run from the Santa Cruz Wharf to the Wharf in Capitola. He left the race $3,000 richer, having defeated defending champion Shadrack Kosgei. He was just 14 seconds short of the record set by Lameck Aguta back in 1992. Kosgei, who came in second, was just 16 seconds behind him.

Brett Gotcher, formerly of Watsonville, was the fastest person with local ties to complete the race, coming in at 27:32. This put him just three seconds behind third-place winner Macdonard Ondara, also of Kenya. Gotcher, a graduate of Aptos High, now lives in Flagstaff. Read more at the Santa Cruz Sentinel.
