Signs Naming Creeks to Go Up Downtown
Most people in Santa Cruz know when they’re crossing the San Lorenzo River, but water about smaller rivulets like Branciforte Creek? There are 200 00 named creeks and rivers throughout the county, but few people know the names of all of them, and only 36 are marked.

That will soon change though. Both Santa Cruz and Scotts Valley will be adding small circular signs along the smaller waterways to let people know what they’re named. It’s not just for public education either. Water officials believe that the signs help people become better stewards of the creeks and rivers that supply the county with its drinking water. At the very least, if someone sees another person dumping trash into a creek, they’ll be able to report exactly where it happened. Read more at the Mercury News.
