As the Governor went through the state’s new budget, he cut out $6.3 million in aid to the state’s senior citizens. About $380,000 of this will be borne by the seniors of Santa Cruz County. Just under two-thirds of this will be cut from state programs that provide case managers to seniors to assist them with daily living. Over one-third will be cut from funding for community programs.
Clay Kempf, the Executive Director of the Seniors Council and Area Agency on Aging in Santa Cruz, says that “Cutting these services will leave a lot of people stranded.” The Executive Director of the Senior Network Services in Santa Cruz, Brenda Moss, explains that “The people we serve have no one else to turn to.” Read more at the Santa Cruz Sentinel.
