Anyone who lives in Santa Cruz knows that there’s plenty to do here in the autumn months. Now news about Santa Cruz activities is going to reach a much larger audience, thanks to a new promotional campaign geared specifically for the autumn months. The campaign is the brainchild of the Tourism Marketing District, launched this July. Apart from great beaches and stunning mountain scenery, it will highlight 12 different festivals and events, including the Capitola Art and Wine Festival, the Santa Cruz Mountain Wine Passport Day (wine is definitely a major draw here, as is the Santa Cruz Chili Cook-Off in October) and, for nature fans, the Begonia Festival in Capitola and the Monterey Bay Birding Festival in Watsonville. The season ends with Capitola’s Surfing Santa extravaganza on Nov. 27. Free candy canes for everyone!

The campaign will take advantage of the Internet, local cable stations and print publications, especially in the Bay Area. Among its target audiences are previous visitors, who may have come here in the summer but don’t realize how much there is to do in fall, after the fog has left To reach them, the campaign will distribute 75,000 promotional cards throughout the Bay Area.

This is the first time in 10 years that Santa Cruz has decided to highlight its autumn tourism potential. It was made possible thanks to the local Tourism Council budget, which doubled over the past year thanks to a surcharge of $1.00 to $1.50 on local hotel rooms. Read more at the Santa Cruz Sentinel.
