The Santa Cruz Police Department has issued a $825,000 arrest warrant in connection with the stabbing death of local teen Tyler Tenorio on Friday night. The warrants follows the arrest yesterday of Daniel Onesto, 19, who is also a suspect in the murder. The new suspect is Paulo Luna, 23, said to be a member of the same gang as Onesto.

The SCPD also reported that the story behind the slaying has been altered after further questioning of the victim’s friends. It is now believed that Tenorio and his friends were driving past the Seven-Eleven near Chestnut and Laurel when they were confronted by a small group of gang members hurling gang slurs at them. The students now claim that they stopped the car to confront the gang members, leading to the fatal fight. When more gang members joined in the fight, they decided to run away, but Tenorio was tripped and later stabbed to death. Originally, the students claimed that they had been hanging out across the street from the gang members, but police noticed too many inconsistencies in their stories.
