Police investigating $500,000 in vandalism to a Scotts Valley construction site are considering whether the incident is related to similar vandalism at UCSC’s McHenry Library construction site earlier this summer. Though no one has claimed responsibility for the attacks, the Scotts Valley vandalism was listed on the website of the North American branch of ELF (Earth Liberation Front), a radical environmental group that describes itself as supporting “covert actions … in defense of the environment.” The ELF site did not list the UCSC vandalism, but the damage to heavy equipment is considered to be sufficiently similar to warrant investigation.
