School trustees voted last night to allow Executive Chef Jamie Smith to begin preparing school lunches for Santa Cruz middle school students. At the same time they decided to postpone their decision regarding elementary and high school lunches until their next meeting on November 18. Smith, who will start next month, plans to make all of the lunches from scratch.

Education officials worry that continuing with Revolution Foods would continue to expand the food services deficit, which currently stands at $218,000. By launching the new program in all schools in January, they claim that they can reduce the deficit to $40,000.
