A man robbed a Capitola bank of an undisclosed amount of money, then reportedly offered passersby $1,000 to give him a ride to Santa Cruz with his heist. Police are still looking for the suspect, described as a transient in his forties or fifties, with gray hair and poor hygiene. He was wearing jeans, a gray sweatshirt, and black shoes.
The man, who was apparently unarmed, walked into the bank shortly before noon on Saturday and asked the teller to give him money in $20 and $100 denominations. He then jumped on the counter, pushed the teller aside and opened the till, grabbing what money he could. When police combed the area to search for the man, they were told by bystanders that someone fitting the description had been offering people to pay them $1,000 to drive him into Santa Cruz. Since he was not found, it is possible that someone gave him a ride.
Police are still combing the neighborhood of the crime for any information that might lead to the robber’s arrest. Read more at Santa Cruz Sentinel.
