It was 101 degrees yesterday in Santa Cruz, which is fine if you live in Florida, but this is Northern California, where the weather is always cool and comfortable. In fact, the last time it hit even 90 degrees in town on that date was way back in 1926. Of course, it could be worse. And in fact, it was in Scotts Valley, where the thermometer reached 107, and in Ben Lomond, where it hit 104. Even in relatively chilly Watsonville, at an icy 94 degrees, people sought relief, whether at the beach, the (air-conditioned) mall or the ice cream parlor.
The good news is that today the mercury is expected to drop slightly. It will still be hot—record hot, for that matter—but don’t start donating all your winter clothes yet. By this weekend, the temperatures are expected to drop by 20-30 degrees. It will be a metaphorical sauna-to-swimming pool shift, so be prepared. If we survive the next couple of days, things could get downright nippy again. Read more at the Santa Cruz Sentinel.
