Local lawmakers and community groups met yesterday for a town-hall meeting at the Louden Nelson Community Center to discuss public transportation in the county. Groups such as the Campaign for Sensible Transportation and the Support METRO Committee expressed their concerns that with the recent budget cuts, they are about to see a steep reduction in public transportation services. Santa Cruz Regional Transportation Commission Deputy Director Luis Mendez agreed with their assessment, but promised that the county will be looking for alternative funding, including federal stimulus money, to compensate for the loss of state funding.
