The SCPD is still hunting for the vandal who slashed the tires of 50 cars within a half-mile radius on the Westside Friday night and carved swastikas into six of the vehicles. The addition of the swastika means that the suspect, when caught, could be charged with a hate crime in addition to felony vandalism.

Police spokesman Zach Friend called the attacks “methodical” and “inexcusable,” but said that he is confident the suspect will be caught. “You wouldn’t be able to go through 50 cars very quickly, so somebody or sombodies were out there for a long period of time. Hopefully somebody saw something and will let us know.”

Police have collected some evidence, but they have not yet received any leads on the suspect or suspects, said Lt. Larry Richards. In the meanwhile, they have increased the number of patrols in the area.
