The investigation continues on the sexual assault of a 69-year-old woman in her West Cliff home.

Santa Cruz police and the state’s Justice Department are continuing to investigate the sexual assault of a 69-year-old woman in her West Cliff home early Wednesday morning. Though the assailant wore a ski mask, police believe he did not wear gloves, and the Justice Department has collected evidence, including samples of the duct tape he used to bind the woman, to their crime lab for further study. Meanwhile police are combing through their files of registered sex offenders in the area whose previous attacks fit the same modus operandi. In what may be another potential lead, they are also investigating an anonymous tip that was left on the police hotline. Police describe the attacker as a white male, 5′ 9″ and of medium build, in his twenties.

Meanwhile, neighbors at the mobile home park where the woman lived are taking precautions to prevent future assaults. Residents are planning a community meeting to ensure that the community is adequately gated and that proper street lights and, possibly, alarms are installed. Read More at the Santa Cruz Sentinel.
