Forget about throwing rocks through windows. The SCPD is now trying to determine who set five random cars on fire between 2:50am and 3:30am Sunday morning in the city’s Midtown and Eastside neighborhoods. The fires posed a serious threat to property and lives. Flames from an Acura set ablaze on Branciforte Drive reached a nearby tree, just a few feet away from a propane gas tank. The fire set in a Honda Passport on Market Street reached less then 10 feet away from a home.
Investigators are trying to figure out whether the arsons were connected to another four cases of car arsons on the Westside that occurred between February and May. They are also looking into a possible link with a car fire in Aptos a few weeks ago. Read more at the Santa Cruz Sentinel.
