With the murder of 16-year-old Tyler Tenorio looming over them, the Santa Cruz Police Department stepped up its anti-gang operations to avert any trouble on Halloween. Police officers from across the county contacted 45 known gang members and arrested 21 of them for weapons and drugs violations. “Our intent is to sustain this pressure,” said Captain Steve Clark of the SCPD.

In addition to the SCPD, the operation involved officers from the Sheriff’s Office, Watsonville Police Department, Capitola Police Department, California Highway Patrol, State Parole, District Attorney’s Office, and County Probation. One of the highlights was the successful bust of a group of drug dealers operating on lower Pacific Avenue. Five men allegedly selling meth and crack cocaine were arrested in the sting, which was the culmination of a two-month-long undercover operation. Read more at Santa Cruz Sentinel and Fox 35.
