Occupy California, the student group that took over a building at UCSC in September, is continuing its activities against the university authorities. New graffiti is appearing across the campus, loud dance parties are disrupting student life, and a student was pepper-sprayed by campus police after attempting to move a picnic table to help barricade the Humanities II building. The student and two others were later arrested.

The campus has decided to respond to future disturbances on a case-by-case basis. According to a campus spokesman, campus police are asked to “exercise considerable judgment” and determine if the students are breaking any laws or campus rules before acting.
